Modern Foreign Languages

Language learning is highly regarded at the school and the children learn French from nursery right up until the end of their Thorngrove journey in Year 8. French is the sole language taught at this time, however, both Spanish and German can be offered as extra-curricular activities.

In Year 7, children enjoy a week of ‘total immersion’ in Normandy, France, staying at a purpose-built chateau where they are encouraged to speak French at all times. They will have exposure to authentic French culture through activities such as fencing, excursions to local markets and a chocolate factory! This experience is invaluable preparation for the listening and speaking part of the French CE exams.
