Academic Overview

The academic life of the school is one of the most important areas. Our well-qualified and experienced teachers inspire the children to love learning and promote an atmosphere of fun, exploration and discovery in their lessons.

At Thorngrove School we believe that all children are entitled to an education that will enable them to develop their full potential – be that intellectual, physical, aesthetic, creative, emotional, spiritual or social.  All children have individual needs, and it is our aim to provide a clearly structured curriculum that will enable them to achieve within a stimulating, challenging and supportive learning environment, with enthusiasm and enjoyment. We want our children to become skilled independent learners with an intellectual curiosity that will equip them for future life.

Our curriculum follows that of the National Curriculum Framework alongside the requirements of ISEB. We prepare children for senior school entrance exams, scholarships and Common Entrance assessment. We provide a broad curriculum, prioritising a strong academic core of subjects whilst developing pupils’ independent learning skills and resilience, through motivating and supportive teaching.
